Buying a home is a very exciting and rewarding experience.   People always ask us what is the first step when buying a home?  The answer I always give is for them to talk with a lender to get pre-qualified for a home loan.

Many buyers make the mistake of looking at homes before they ever get pre-qualified.  The reason this is a mistake is because you may have spent weeks or months looking at homes to find the home of your dreams!  When you find the perfect home you then decide to write an offer on the property but when you talk with the lender he says that you can not qualify for a home in that price range.   At that moment you dream home has been taken from you because you set yourself up for failure in the beginning.

This heartache could have been saved if the buyer would have taken 20-30 minutes to talk with a lender.   Getting pre-qualified for a home is not as difficult or intrusive as many people would think.  In fact, most lenders can do a  pre-qualification over the phone or internet.  They will take the information you provide and compare it with the banks guidelines.   The lender will come back to you with a purchase price that you’re qualified for along with conditions that you need to meet in order to qualify for the home loan.  It is that easy!
